Try this: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clip&thread.id=14609 takes you to a very good step by step on how to get your Clip connected.

Don’t mark that a solution was found , if your problem isn’t fixed. Did you try each of the solutions on that webpage? if you had problems with any of those steps, ask questions. Maybe someone can help. You can also contact Support at 1-866-SANDISK.
none of it worked…is there an instructional video that i can view?

I don’t know of any instructional video’s. Maybe someone else will chime in and say. Try contacting Sansa Support, they should be able to help walk you through steps.
Make sure to try MSC mode. On the Clip > Select Settings > USB Mod > MSC
Turn off the clip
Connect it to your computer
If it doesn’t mount. Try restarting the computer…
If you don’t find the 2G Clip under windows Explorer, then be sure to call Sansa Support.
Cheers,
in my settings theres no msc or usb mode option.
Settings is a menu on the Clip. click the small menu button. then use up/down buttons to find Settings. Then Select. and then look through the list of options in the settings menu. Scroll up or down till you find USB Mode press select. then select the USB Mode you will test.
Dude…the only options on my settings are;
Equalizer
Power
Display
Language
FM Settings
Volume
System info
Reset all
Format
Press and hold
nothing more follows…any idea?

What version of the firmware do you have? Look under Settings > System info > firmware version.
Check the tread at the top of the forum to see what the latest firmware version is and consider upgrading. My settings has USB Mode as an option. I am running the current firmware, and maybe making a difference.
V01.01.11A thats the version in my system info.
Try a different USB cable. If that doesn’t work, try contacting Sansa Support. I’m out of ideas. Sansa Support will also take time and walk you through the steps. Give them a try.
The reason you don’t have the USB settings is that your firmware is way old.
Best to update it–see the threads at the top of the forum. You can use the Sansa Updater or apply the latest firmware manually. If you can’t connect your Clip to your computer to do so, try “forcing” MSC mode to connect to your computer: Clip off, hold the center button down while connecting the USB cable between your Clip and the computer. And then update the firmware and see if that helps your situation. As part of that, you then can go to Settings/USB and choose MSC mode (MSC mode is more “universal” and does not require additional software needed for MTP mode; but only MTP mode can handle files controlled by DRM (digital rights management).
I suggested him to check his firmware and update, but that maybe hard to do till he gets it connected. One last thing. Try a Different computer
my daughter got one as a gift and we are having the same problem, tried several usb cords and three different computers and still nothing will connect the sansa clip to the computer. It won’t read :o(
Did you set the USB mode to MSC?
And all of the available USB ports (directly)?
That option isn’t available in this version of firmware

Then feel free to upgrade it.
