Where has my 'play' button gone to?

Hi All,

I just updated my firmware to the new release to get the FLAC support, however this has had undesirable side-effect… when I scroll to an album in the the albums list, and press play (like I’ve always done) nothing happens. I have to hit the middle button twice to select the album and then select the track I want to play, before anything happens. If nothing is playing at all and I select an album, then the highlighted track does not respond to the play button, instead it can only be played using the middle button.I should add that all the play/pause button does now is play or pause a track that is already playing, it won’t start a track playing.

I really think something has changed here or am I imagining this? It’s counter intuitive that I can’t simply scroll to the album I want and then play the whole thing without extra button-pressing.

thanks!

Yes, this is confusing. Sometimes I am not sure whether to press the middle button or the play button to get a track to start playing. When one doesn’t work, then I know I needed the other.

Thanks JK

The problem is that I’ve been using my Fuze a lot, and I’ve never had to think about it - just highlight an album, click play and it played…

The moment I switched back on after the firmware, I felt that something had changed.

I’m prepared to downgrade my firmware (if I can do that) to prove to myself that something’s not right… can that be done?

I have always been used to the concept of pressing the center button to select the highlighted choice.

Especially in cases where the background goes grey, the play / pause button is redirected to play / pause only, allowing you to start / stop the current track while navigating about.

This feature was designed for men, and I like it!

Well, at least for a common function that becomes apparent if you drive with your wife or girlfriend, and get lost.  Characteristically, men will turn down the radio when trying to concentrate on the situation.  Women will navigate by filtering out the radio, and will leave the volume knob alone.

So, go on out there and get lost, and make note of what happens.  Oh, for this experiment, bring your wife or girlfriend.  As a caution (safety first!) be very careful, if bringing BOTH the wife AND the girlfriend, as this is an entirely different issue for those in this precarious situation.

If I know I want to play an album (i.e. it’s highlighted in the list of albums, the list that I chose because I wanted to play an album) then one button press of the ‘play’ button should be enough. Having to then select the first track seems pointless and unintuitive.

When the background has not gone grey, what does play/pause do? In other words, what did it do before it was redirected?

Paul, I guess they have it the way they do is that some people search for a specific song by picking the album, and don’t want to play the whole album. If the player gave a choice between a song list and an album list (and had an easy way to toggle between the two) when an artist was selected, then they could make pressing the play button when on an album name to play the album from the start.
