Thanks
Thanks to advice from these threads, I’m now having a great time with my Sansa Connect! One last item, though, is still tripping me up. I have some movies which I’ve downloaded to my PC and would like to move them to my Sansa Connect. I’ve downloaded the suggested video converter software suggested in these threads. I’m assuming that the format needs to be MPEG4 to sync w/the Sansa Connect, but I keep getting the dreaded “red X” error message that video cannot be downloaded in current format. Is there a specific format that the Sansa Connect uses? And, is there a specific procedure for moving the video from my PC to the Sansa?
Thanks!

The Sansa Connect video folder can be accessed using Windows Explorer at My Computer\Sansa Connect\Internal Memory\Video. Just copy your videos into there.
I decided to give the Sansa Media Converter another shot (tried it a while back and it was really terrible). It will recognize your attached Sansa Connect and convert video files right into the Connect’s Video directory. This tool seems to have really improved; it converted a video onto both my Sansa Fuze and my Sansa Connect without a problem.
The Sansa Connect FAQ (http://www.sandisk.ca/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1541#47) lists the video formats that are supposedly supported. I looked at an output file from the SMC, here are its properties, below. I think the most important properties are that it be MPEG-4, dimensions 320x240, framerate 15 fps.
General
Complete name : x.mp4
Format : MPEG-4
Overall bit rate : 702 Kbps
Video
Format : MPEG-4 Visual
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 510 Kbps
Maximum bit rate : 1 807 Kbps
Width : 320 pixels
Height : 240 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 4:3
Frame rate mode : Constant
Frame rate : 15.000 fps
Resolution : 8 bits
Audio
Format : AAC
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 192 Kbps
Nominal bit rate : 48.0 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Many thanks for the ideas. It work very well!
Yeah, I just now tested Any Video Converter for purposes of answering a question in another thread, and it works well … just choose the “Customized MP4 Movie” preset, and change to the following as needed:
Video codec: mpeg4
Frame size: 320x240
Video bitrate: 512
Video framerate: 15
Audio codec: aac
Audio bitrate: 192
Sample rate: 48000
Frame rate can also be 30 fps. At least that’s what my new $20 Sandisk V-mate says it’s outputting, and the video plays fine on the Connect. Tried it at both 15 and 30 fps, and both worked.
