Hi, I’ve had my Sansa 8gb with a 16gb SD card for the entirety I’ve used it. and it’s been working flawlessly for months now.
However I was recently using it, turned it off, on again and it got stuck on the flower logo.
here is a list of what works, does not work and other information
the player works fine without the SD in the slot.
the SD card works fine when plugged into other devices (such as my phone and an SD adapter in my laptop) and I can see and use all the files in there.
if the SD card is in the slot when the player boots up, it follows this sequence - Sandisk logo -> flower logo -> turns off -> turns on -> Sandisk logo -> flower logo -> stays on that until I intervene.
So, obviously I at first thought it was an issue with the sd card but it works fine in other devices any info would be helpful. I’d preferably not like to format anything as I do have both the internal 8gb and SD’s 16gb full - and it took a while to get it all on. Thanks Tom
I had not added any new files for a couple of weeks, and I always have it playing on random - so maybe one of the files it doesn’t like didn’t get played for a long time.
The only problem is there is 15gb of music on that SD card, so tracing a problem file (if there is one) is going to take a while.
Also, I would have assumed that ,even if there was a problem file, the player would still be able to boot up with the SD card in - it would just crash when trying to play that particilular file, no? it’s as if it recognises there is an SD card in the slot and is trying to do something with it…
I think I will try formating the SD card tonight and see how that goes.
Search for the problem file(s) in a systematic manner. Clear the card, then load half the music on it. if it is okay, then load the next 25% of music. If there is a problem, then delete half the 25% you just added, and see how that goes. You should be able to find the problem rather quickly this way.
No, I’m afraid these suggestions have not solved the situation.
I formatted the SD card (fat32),
tried a second smaller (2gb) SD card
and also formatted+reset to factory the player itself.
all produce the same results.
It just seems as though there is something happening to the player (be it hardware or software) while an SD card is in use. it boots (both logos)… stops… reboots (both logos) and gets stuck on the flower logo. works fine without an SD card… which is a dissapointing as the reason I bought this player was because of the expansion slot.
OK I manually reapplied the firmware and it seems to have solved the issue.
I followed the instructions in the sticky as so
• Ensure your battery is > 50% full
• Extract the .zip file into a folder on your computer
• Once extracted, drag the two files to the root directory of your Sansa Clip+
• Disconnect the Sansa Clip+ and let it begin the firmware update
• Once it finally finishes doing its update, it will turn itself off ------AT THIS POINT I INSERTED THE BLANK SD CARD--------
• Turn the Clip+ on Select your language and region preference
• Once its back to the main menu, head to “Settings” > “System Settings” > “Info”, and verify the “Version” is now 01.02.15
Thank you for the help. Seems that the firmware somehow got corrupted.
I’m glad the OP was able to fix his player, but mine’s being stubborn.
I followed the instructions to the letter, but I’m still getting stuck on the logo. I’ve tried two different cards, both Sansa 4gb and both of which worked fine in my Fuze. (Unfortunately the Fuze was stolen or I’d never have bought the Clip+.)
I know you’re supposed to have the player off when you insert/remove the card, but just for the hell of it I took out the card while it was stuck on the logo, and the player unfroze and worked fine.
I thought maybe it was just that it’s a refurb, but it sort of bothers me that there are a lot of other people having problems with this thing freezing up. For now I can make do with the 4gb internal memory, but it’s kind of a disappointment.

Whenever one buys a refurb (anything) they are gambling that it will work just like a new one. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. And with no manufacturer support or warranty, the little savings one gets in buying one vs. now buying 2 when the refurb fails means they actually paid more then if they had spent a couple extra dollars, euros, pounds, whatever in the first place to get a new device.
Sounds like your card slot is malfunctioning and there’s probably not anytning you can do but buy another player.
And there’s _ not _ “a lot of other people” having this problem (freezing) that aren’t caused by themselves in the first place.
