Solutins for Sansa e260 ^^

Here are the solutions for people who just get this model. I spent more than 4 hours figuring out what I want.

[How to get “SMC”]

http://www.sandisk.com/driverdownload/drlogin.asp?driverId=18

Once you are on this page, click on “Skip registration”

Click on  “Download another Driver”

Go to “select product type” drop down window and select sansa

“Choose operating system” dropdown menu select your OS

Then click “find Driver”

Mark the sansa media Converter and continue

Then just click the blue download bubble and intall the converter.

[How to convert AVI to MOV using SMC]

Please follow the ways. Once you finish installing SMC, I suggest you that your computer need to restart.

Run SMC -> Hook up Sansa using USB cable (if you hook up Sansa first to your computer and run SMC, your computer won’t detect Sansa which means the option of “convert” on the top of SMC wouldn’t be available)

In my case, even though I followed the steps above and my Sansa was detected, my AVI movie files couldn’t be converted with an error message. I spent another hour to take the alternative to install Quick Time Converter. I don’t know why. What happended was when I rebooted my laptop and followed the same ways, I was able to convert any kinds of AVI files to MOV using SMC. Now I can enjoy what I want to watch using my Sansa. ^^ However, there is still one problem I need to take care of. Like the lagging problem, the audio runs a little faster than the video when watching a movie. Anybody knows why it happends?

[Transfer MP3 files to Sansa]

I heard that Windows Media Players or Windows explorer are availale to do that. I found another way which is to install “Media Monkey”. You can down load it on the website. Can anybody help me who to transfer MP3 files to Sansa using Windows explorer?

I hope this information I obtained yesterday would be of help for other people. You guys don’t need to waste the time!!

You can “drag and drop” mp3 files onto the Sansa using Windows explorer,
OR right-click and choose “copy” then go to the Sansa and click “paste”.

You need to “unhide” the folders on Windows to see the “music” folder on the Sansa .

I download the media converter and QuickTime player. Now My media converter successfully convert my video and transmits them to my sansa e260, But when I unplug the device and want to watch the video, it tell me that “the type of file is not compatible. Please use media converter to convert the video”!!? Can anybody help me?

90+% of the time, one must first convert a video using 3rd-party conversion software, before handing it over to SMC for final conversion and transfer to the Sansa device. Quicktime merely provides a codec necessary for SMC to operate properly.

There are many suggestions on conversion software here on the forum that people use. Different people with different computer systems putting videos on different Sansa models all have different results. There is no 1 magic bullet. I’d suggest reading a few threads (searching if necessary) and try some that sound promising. You won’t know if it will work for you until you try it.
