I am quite happy with my new Sansa fuze +.I fIlashed the July 2011 firware today and am satisfied with the speedyness using a 32 gb sdhc card that the firmware fixed (overall responsiveness with cards)
On to the issue I am having… Once the fuze powers down and says good bye due to inactivity and i press power a few seconds it turns on with logo and then a black screen. I try it again and same thing. then i press a few seconds longer (about 4 sec) and it turns on properly. Couuld someone please enlighten me as to what may be wrong. :FYI i have used the reset feature already.
Is there perhaps another way to turn the unit on after it says goodbye and turns off? some people on the board are mentioning multiple presses via the pad or are they in error ? \
ps longer presses of the power button to turn on are successfull. not sure why on earth a shorter press would give failiures to bring the player up and running
I’ve never had this happen before… Have you tried reinstalling the firmware? You can find a firmware download + instructions on how to install the firmware HERE . Don’t use the updater, as it’s quite useless on this player. Instead, use the “Manual Firmware Update” method.

Dear halonacho117: I did as you suggested and the issue is now resolved. Turned it on 3 times in a row and it boots even faster than before fyi. No more aborted boots. Now I can continue using my Fuze+ with confidence !
Ps I hope halonachos117’s advice helps others with this rare issue using the updater instead of the manual firmware update.
I would also like to add my 2 cents worth that coming from an Ipod Classic the Fuze+ is a fully fleged device with awesome menuing capabilities… most importantly I have icons of the albums all on top at once of each album from an artist and with a quick flick can go to any album or song without going back then -up or down- and then back in using the wheel of the ipod. Please folks that dont like the gui of the fuze+, fool around a while you might come to love it as I have.
Hi again. It seems the problem has returned and is related to limewells post titled “Sansa Fuse+ issues with 16G sd card”
I formated via the fuze+ my 32gb SDHC sony class 10 card. Reseated it and loaded my media onto the card using the fuze+ as my card reader doesn’t support class 10 at all. I then powered on 5 times a-ok. Noted that the one side of the card, although clicked into the slot, protrudes ever so slightly. I bet that with use I will eventually nudge the card somehow and will likely have that failed power on that limewell is describing also. The Fuze+ is so small and the buttons located in such a way that the unit needs to be held in various positions to operated. Next thing is to work on the seating of the card and see if I can get it as flush as possible.
Perhaps you could try Rockbox, an alternative firmware for various MP3 players. Personally, I’ve found that Rockbox works in a much more painless way than the Sandisk firmware, anyway. Unlike Sandisk’s firmware, you can use Rockbox without having to wait for laggy menus.

Halonachos117, thankyou for the suggestion. I won’t be installing the Rockbox firmware as there are reports of less battery life with Rockbox; also some users report the sound quality is not as good as sansa’s stock firmware. However I am happy to report that using a class 4 microsd instead of a class 10 has corrected the problem 100%. Only a slight delay at the logo screen that I can live with using a external card. I no longer have to try turning the unit on multiple times ^^ Have a pleasant day.
How old are these battery reports you are talking about? I noticed the Fuze+ did at one point get worse battery life with Rockbox than with the Sandisk firmware.
However, there’s been quite a few improvements in the Fuze+ version of Rockbox, including (ongoing) power enhancements. As of when this was posted, tests showed that it’s quite possible to get just under 43 hours’ worth of playback on a single charge, whereas Sandisk boasts (using the Sandisk firmware) only 24 hours playback. See HERE, for more battery benchmark information. Please note that the tests are in date order, starting with the oldest first. You’ll see how things have steadily improved.
As for sound quality, Rockbox has some pretty neat sound-enhancement features, such as a full 10-band parametric equalizer. I personally feel the quality can be quite good, especially if you take the time to play with the toys given to you. Of course, the quality of the headphones and individual files can have a bigger impact than anything else.
