Sansa Clip stuck

I have it stuck on “Not enough memory for music DB. Please… etc.”. I know there are tons of similar posts like this, but mine is a little different, because I got stuck in MSC mode and I can’t turn on my Clip, because it turns off after that message.

Tried formatting and error checking, nothing helps.

I’m starting to believe I’ve bricked my player forever :frowning:

It can still be fixed…I did it a couple weeks ago.

Plug it into the computer, and then you have to use Windows to format it completely. This will delete everything, including the firmware, and you’ll be left with what’s essentially an empty USB drive. At this point, load the firmware onto it, using the manual method( the Updater wouldn’t help, and you should get rid of it if you do have it) and when you unplug it, you should see the “Firmware upgrade in progress” message. After that, reload your music on the player, and everything should be fine.

Still nothing. Tried just dropping firmware files on Sansa Clip and after I disconnect, that message appears and Clip turns off.

Did you do that after the full format, like I described above?

Yes.

OK then, since you did this after the full format, then that is normal firmware upgrade behavior. So now, it should turn on normally, and simply not have any music on it, so you will have to reload it.

You see, I couldn’t upgrade firmware - I turn it on/disconnect it and after Sansa splash screen, “Not enough space…” message appears and Clip shuts down.

That means you didn’t get it formatted. You can’t do the firmware upgrade and reload until after it’s formatted. And you have to do that with the computer…right-click on it, and you’ll see Format as one of your choices. After that, in Windows Explorer/My Computer, it will show up as an empty USB drive…not as a Clip with its various firmware folders.

Only then can you add firmware to it, and dis-connect, and reload the music.

Correct me if I did something wrong, but i formatted itand copied firmware files (since I can’t turn my Sansa Clip on, I don’t know which firmware version is mine, so I just copy both). After this, I disconnect, “Not enough memory for… blah blah blah”, and it shuts down.

Did you try scanning the filesystem for errors, etc.? The first of those two files ( m30pa.bin ) is the firmware you need. Try it again with just that one. That should work. It looks like you did format the same way that I did, so using just the one firmware file should make this work…I’ve done it twice now for my friend who now owns my old Clip.

I’ve tried pretty much everything by now  By the way, with only one file copied still doesn’t work. **bleep**, I really liked this player

Strange…I can’t see why it wouldn’t work. Like I said, I’ve done it twice to my old one that my friend has now. That’s a bummer.

Hello, Mine does the same thing.  When I plug it into the computer the files come up.

Audible              Audiobooks

Bootex               Mtable

Music                Podcasts

Record               Res_Info

Sys_Conf            Version. sdk

WMP Info

This also comes up through My Computer.   I would really like to fix this MP3 player for my daughter but I am no computer tech.   Can Anyone Help?

Sorry, but what “same thing” does it do?

Have you tried:  a system re-set–with the Clip off, hold the on switch uppermost for 15-20 seconds; a reapplication of the firmware (it could have become corrupted over time)–see the sticky thread on firmware upgrade at the top of the forum; and/or a reformat, from the Clip’s settings (note:  this will erase your content on the Clip).
