I am trying to download a short video to my Sandisk Cruzer to be played via the USB port in a Samsung LCD TV. How do format the drive in Mac utilities to work with Samsung USB port. Thank you
How do format the drive in Mac utilities to work with Samsung USB port.
What does your Samsung TV user manual say is required for USB devices?
If the Sandisk drive is less than 64 GB it is formated as FAT32 which is universally accepted. If it’s 64 GB or greater it is formated as exFAT and maybe your TV doesn’t support that. exFAT is required to support drive sizes greater than 32 GB. How to override that in a MAc I have no idea.
Thanks, I have an iMac running Yosemite. My Samsung TV requires FAT 16, FAT 32 or NTFS. The format options available in utilities erase, on my iMac, are MS-DOS (FAT), ExFAT, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled). I tried MS-DOS (FAT) format in my Cruzer 4 GB thumb drive, which turns out to be FAT 32. It does not work on my Samsung TV but plays fine on my Mac. Do you have a suggestion?
Thanks again.
At 4 GB your flash drive was already formated at FAT32 and should have worked in your iMac and TV. Based on the specs for the TV and the capabilities of your iMac utilities the MS DOS format is the only option available to you. Try it a 2nd time and see if that helps. Now if you could find another machine running Windows; a friend’s, a family member’s, a library’s, etc you could try formating the flash drive as NTFS to see if that solves the problem.
Are you sure the file format of your video is supported by the TV? Some TVs only read AVI files. Maybe that’s the problem.
