Podcast playlist/golist

With my last player, I would create a playlist of the podcasts that I wanted to listen to in much the same way I would create the GoList on my Fuze.  That way I could keep working instead of digging in my pocket all of the time.  The Fuze says it’s adding my podcasts to the GoList, but it never actually does.  I tried creating .m3u playlists but that didn’t work either.  (Using the same techniques for music work find, so I know that’s not the problem.)  Is there a way around this bug?

Also, Google lead me to a forum posting regarding adding podcasts to a golist on the Sansa Clip.  There it was stated that this bug was both present and deliberate in the Sansa Clip.  Does anyone know for certain if this is an intentional bug in the Fuze firmware like it is in the Clip?

No its just a bug. Its on the list

are they going to fix this so I can add Podcasts, and audiobook tracks together in the golist. Seems a little silly that they can’t let us do that. thats a option I can’t live with out.

If Sansa Fix says its on the list, then its being worked on. There has been no real confirmation of when we will see a fix.

How long has this list been floating along?

Why do you need to make a list out of them? I select my podcasts one by one, and I don’t find it to be inconvenient. Not flaming here, just asking:smiley:

Aparently since not that long after the Fuze’s release. The time span leads me to believe it is not a priority, but rather something that will get fixed as time permits. They have to focus on MAJOR playback and functionallity bugs obviously, and upgrades to the GUI because this is what people want. The Go List with podcast function has not been all that widely asked for.

I use this most of the time connected to my audio system. I like to select two to four podcasts to play in one list when I am out running or just sitting in bed reading. I don’t want to have to get up and select a new podcast to listen to each time it ends. I love that on the fly add to go list on my C250. I guess I’ll have to change the tags for all my podcasts and not use the podcast and Audiobook folders in the time being. to work around it. ■■■■■ if you ask me. I know you can make IDtags in Media player and such but thats not going to help if I am out in my car and want to select three or so shows to play along the trip

Conversionbox wrote “If Sansa Fix says its on the list, then its being worked on. There has been no real confirmation of when we will see a fix.” where is this list may I ask?

Workaround:  Try using FOLDER navigation to go the the PODCASTS folder and play all.

That work around isn’t for me. But thank you very much. No relabeling the shows genre seems to be the only way to make me happy, Mind you I am not very impressed with the fuze I have to say it’s been a big let down for me. I now shopping around for a new MP3 player but it will not be a Sandisk product again.

I can’t speak for the original poster, but here are my reasons:

  1. I only listen to podcasts when I drive to work. At 85 mph, I’d rather watch the road than mess with devices.
  2. I subscribe to a few 1-2 minute daily podcasts–word of the day, today in history, that sort of thing–and for me, manually playing each one gets old fast.
  3. I’m very busy (and lazy), so I can’t (or don’t) always sync every day and I get behind. I play them chronologically (all of Monday’s podcasts, then Tuesday’s, …) so I don’t zone out or have to listen to the same effing jingle 10 times in a row. Why don’t I skip ahead? See #1. When there are too many in the list, I forget which ones I already played. It usually goes like this: “■■■■, was I on the fifth one down or the sixth?” and I can’t simply use Back or Next if I’m wrong. Meanwhile, I can keep track long enough to put them in order in a playlist.

In short: I’m a set-it-and-forget-it kind of gal about portable devices; podcasts + Fuze = too fussy. I use my ancient stick player for podcasts.

Thanks, SansaFix, for the suggestion to play Podcasts using the Folder option.  However, I would like to add my voice to the users who would like to be able to create playlists of podcasts.   I upgraded to the Fuze from the Clip and this is one feature that I really miss!!

I have at least two categories of podcasts that I would like to be able to keep on separate playlists.  One list for podcasts that I will listen to one time (daily) and another for podcasts that I would like to keep on my device for future listening.

You know I found one little bug that bugs me. about the folder select option. follow along with me if you will.  if you hit music, scroll down to folders/ then hit internal memory/ then you get this folder called MTP, WHY IS THAT THERE? you can’t place anything there? it’s pointless, why don’t they just remove that and go right to my folders. I don’t know why they did that. Ohh well.

If they fix anything at all in the next update I wish they would fix that. remove that pointless little folder MTP.

and thats my rant of the day!

Did you upload using MTP mode? If so, IIRC WMP creates an MTP folder for your stuff. It did it to mine once, hence my crusade to get all my media managed in MSC mode.

Can, in theory, playlists be created for podcasts? They’re just MP3s, yes? If so then I’m sure I can add that functionality to YAPL.

D.

Couldn’t you simply create a podcast subfolder in the music folder and save them there? You should be able to then use them with a playlist or the GoList.

@qualityaudio If I place my podcasts in the music folder, I lose the critical function of the player remembering my place in each podcast.  If I stop in the middle of a podcast, whether to listen to music or a different podcast, the player should remember my place so that I can pick up right where I left off.  That’s why Sansa needs to remove the code in the firmware that disables the GoList feature for podcasts.

The bug that causes this is if the genre in the tags of the mp3 file for the podcast says “podcast”.

So what I do is change the genre to something else (I just delete it) and then you can add the podcast files to a playlist very easily just like any music file.

I capture all my podcasts via Feed Demon which puts them all in a single folder.  In the morning I go to this folder, highlight them all and right-click.  Choose properties and then edit the tags (may need to hit the advanced button).  Delete the genre.

Then I simply copy the files to my Fuze and I usually setup my playlist for the day right there.

A little work but it works fine and gets around the bug.

I had a script that would do this in media monkey, but I’ve given up to the dark side and just use the podcast folder. Everything works fine but I still miss the go list. But I like the feature to remember my place in a podcast.
