When I plug the player into the USB,the player is recognised in My Computer/other and not as removable hardware. Hence, I cannot format it, I cannot use the safely disconnect hardware icon as it isn’t listed. Any suggestions? thanks
Is the player listed in the Portable Devices category in Device Manager?

BTW, even if the player is used in MTP mode and isn’t recognized as a removable disk, I think you can still format the player by right clicking on the icon for its Internal Memory and selecting Format. You can also format the player through its own Settings menu.
