Im running Windows XP. When i plug the player into the USB port it makes that little noise and a pop up comes up. THe only options i have to open the player in are Windows Media Player (which i cant do because since restoring my computer it thinks I have an unverified version) winamp or take no action.
If i do nothing and go into my computer to drag and drop files, I can’t find the player. My old player used to come up in My Computer as Sansa. This one doesn’t seem to be there at all.
Since Windows Media Player is out of the picture (at least temporarily), MTP mode is useless. (I happen to think it’s pretty useless all the time, but that’s another story) Have you tried switching to MSC mode in the SETTINGS > USB Mode? That way your computer will see your Sansa as another storage device/drive and you can easily drag & drop files (songs) to it.
The problem with mine is far more difficult and means that the thing is probably worth **bleep**. It won’t be recognized by anything. My ps3 might have but I can’t do what I want with it on there. So I make videos and use the music I store on the mp3 when I realize I have a good song and inspiration but I can’t do anything if the stupid thing won’t show up as anything on my computer. See I here this little ping when it’s supposedly connected but it seriously doesn’t do anything. I check computer or media player and I get nothing. This idea also does not work. Any other ideas? I’d rather not replace my fuze considering it has years of music on it. Also if I lose a single song I swear I’m sueing the company for selling faulty junk. I seriously have seen more problems with this device than I’ve had with anything my whole life.

How did all that music get on there in the first place?

Yeah . . . good luck with that.
Your music should be backed up either on CDs or on your computer anyway.
