MicroSD not being detected on E250v2

One of the few problems I am having is that my Transcend 8GB MicroSD card. I am trying to figure out why it isn’t detecting on the E250v2. I also have another problem. The FM tuner does not appear on the main menu. Is ther any way i can fix these issues. Right now i’m trying to get my E250v2 fixed right now. After i get that done get these other 2 issues fixed. Any help will be grateful!

Are you sure you have a v2 unit? You can’t always trust the markings on the back, and v1’s do not support SDHC which means 2GB or less. The only way to confirm which version player you have is by the firmware version. This will be listed in the top line of the INFO in the SETTINGS menu. If it starts with a V01.XX.XX, your player is a v1. If it’s V03.XX.XX, you have a v2 and your 8GB card should be read without problems (if the card is good, that is.).

As far as the FM is concerned, it might depend on where you live, or where the player came from. There are certain players sold in Europe without the FM capabilities. Sometimes this is hardware-related; sometimes it’s controlled by the firmware. Check the firmware version as I described above and post back with what the entire top line says. It might be possible to ‘turn on’ your FM.

It says 01.02.18A

Thats a v1, not a v2.  You’ll need to either stick to 2GB memory cards, or else install rockbox (which supports up to 32GB on your player).

Got ya. Now the problem i have now that my MP3 player is using the reserved partition and not the main, anyway i can fix that?

You’ll have to explain this better.

Well then i boot into my MP3 player i get a message saying Not enough space for musicDB. Please free up 6MB. I just need to figure out how to get rid of that. Cause I know it is still on the preserved partition. I also tried to reset it which didn’t do anything.

Not really. You’ve got corrupted files. Read this:

Not really. You’ve got a corrupted file system. Read this:

If error-checking doesn’t solve it, then you’ll have to format the player and re-load everything.

There is a slight problem. It doesn’t show up as a drive on my windows 7 operating system. But I’ll try to see if it’ll show up on ubuntu real quick (which i am dualbootiing with my Windows 7 Operating system

What?

If your device doesn’t show up on the computer while plugged in, try going to Settings > USB mode and select MSC , and then try again.  If the device is set to MTP, Windows Media Player may be the trouble spot; MTP mode is supported by WiMP.

Since you have WIndows 7, Windows Media Player 12 is standard.  You can restore the MTP connection using the Device Manager by uninstalling the device, unplugging, then plugging in again after about 20-30 seconds.  Win7 should then reinstall the MTP-connected Sansa.

There is another method of connecting the e200 series v1:  Recovery Mode.  A strong word of caution is in order before proceeding!  This method of connection actually opens the reserved partition of your v1, so be careful that you do NOT try to format the device from Windows, as it will zorch important data, making recovery a much more difficult task!

Start with a Windows Explorer window (My Computer) open.  Turn the e200 OFF, then slide the top HOLD switch on the Sansa to the right (orange showing).  Press and hold the REC button on the device, while plugging in the USB cable.  Keep the REC button depressed until it connects.

You will now see a new icon labeled 16MB FORMAT, on the computer display.  On the e200, it will display “Welcome to Recovery Mode”.  To clear the internal memory, open this icon with a double click.  Right click, and select New Folder , then rename this folder sansa.fmt    How simple is that!  Upon disconnect (slide the HOLD switch back to the left, or the device will shut down, locked), the sansa will format itself automatically.

While you are in recovery mode, if you download the two firmware files, pp5022.mi4 and the BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom, and UNZIP them (extract), you can plop these two files in the partition (the open WinExplorer window) as well, effectively reinstalling the firmware on your v1.  After this wee bit of brain surgery, your device should connect normally.  Upon disconnect, the firmware will reinstall.

Rockbox relies on the original firmware to handle the USB connection, so reinstalling should be the hot ticket.   Once the device is happy, you can then tackle reinstalling Rockbox.
