ixpand Device not recognised by PC, not recognised by iPhone

Bought an ixpand, looked like a good product, but what a load of drama! …first of all two different PCs failed to recognise the ixpand, so couldn’t do the firmware update. Took it back to retail shop, they managed to do a firmware update. Well at least it recognised the device, gave a message “firmware 4.4.7” etc… but then my iPhone 6 couldn’t detect the ixpand. All a frustrating experience.

Why ship a product that is primarily for iPhone users, but need a PC to upgrade?

Why ship and product and expect the customer to do a firmware upgrade before even using the device?

Bad experience, took it back for a refund.

Is this a common problem? Is it too much to expect the device to work perfectly out of the box? Sandisk should recall the product and fix the firmware issue.

.

A firmware update was not required before iOS 9 was released. Apple changed the way attached storage devices communicate when they released iOS 9. These changes required a FW update on the iXpand side. If you had iOS 8 you would not have seen the issue. Due to these changes devices that were already in the sales channel will require a FW update if the host is using iOS 9. I know it is less than ideal but sandisk has no control over changes Apple makes and unfortunately sometimes changes made to the host side require FW changes on the accessory side.
