I have two things happening here that I can’t seem to find any info about. First, for the last week or so, anytime I delete songs and go to add new songs to my player, I have less available memory. I am currently only able to load about 290 songs, 1.7 G. Then it tells me it is full, even though I know all the memory is not being used.
Thinking this may be solved by a firmware update, I have attempted to install the newest update. I was getting an error message, saying there was not enough room, so I deleted some songs. Now the firmware will download, but will not install. The updater tells me there was a problem and the install was not completed, and when I do it manually, drag and drop, I am told the file already exists, do I want to replace it? I say yes, and then nothing happens. I unplug the player, and it refreshes database, that is all. The player still shows that it is the old firmware version.
Any ideas on either of these??
Thanks
It is a 2G clip, and I am using Windows 2000 Prof and WMP 9 - oh so out of date, I know! :smileyvery-happy: But until now it hasn’t been an issue, I haven’t had any problems that I couldn’t resolve by searching through the forums here… I would greatly appreciate any help!
Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately, they did not work.
I had been using Rhapsody to transfer music, but am finally fed up with it. Using WMP, I was able to use some of that space that was inaccessible. Not sure what the problem with Rhapsody was, but I am done with that program, it has never worked right for me on any computer that I have tried it on.
Anyway, I formatted and tried to install the update, but I still get nothing with the manual installation and an error with the uploader. I am going to go ahead and load up my music and see how much space I can use since the format.
Any other ideas?

Well, now I am regretting that format - I now show about 1.3 G of free space, but can’t transfer any more because I get a message that the player is full. Even when I attempt to load the firmware, it tells me it is full. I have to take off more files in order to attempt the download, and then I have less usable space after it fails (and I am deleting the update file after it fails, so those aren’t using up the space). Both WMP and the player are showing 1.3G free space.
After the initial firmware update didn’t work after I formatted, I reloaded the .20 version, and then tried the .29. No dice.
I have to admit that I am getting a bit cranky. I have spent a great deal of time today trying to figure this out - am I expecting too much to have thought when I purchased this player 6 months ago that it would fuction correctly? It seems there are a lot of problems with this device, I have certainly spent my share of time on this site trying to work out problems with mine, and I am feeling pretty unsatisfied at the moment. Or maybe I just need to go to bed.
So, I will hope that with some sleep I will be feeling more optimistic in the morning, and perhaps someone will have a suggestion that will be the miracle solution Off to bed before I toss this thing out the window…

Have you tried to format Clip from your computer ?
Have you tried to reset it ?
Yes, I have tried those.
I do seem to be able to use my free space today - I have formatted yet again, added .20 update, and have not attemtped the .29 since the format. Apparently the failed upgrade was tying up my free space.
I really would like to get the latest firmware…but I guess at least I have solved the memory problem!
I may try again after the weekend. I fear that if it fails again, I will have to reformat again in order to have it working properly, and don’t want to have to do that until I have the time to reload all my music. Thanks! Hopefully it will work next time. If not, I will be back…
