Firmware upgrade

I too did the upgrade and had it lock up on me. No power, no connection, etc. I left it on a charger overnight, and its worked fine since.

But…

Before the upgrade, it wouldn’t play when on a USB car charger, or on my wall plug charger. Now, the wall charger will allow it to still play while its charging, but it just “clicks” when on my car charger - no sound. I have the actual Sansa charger and USB cable, but use a generic FM transmitter (Belkin)

Sansa Fuze

8 Gig with additional 8 Gig card.

If you are getting the “just clicking” bug, then you probably have a bad headphone jack.  Some Fuzes shipped with a bad headphone jack, in which if you fully engaged the headphone jack, the tip would short out and cause the clicking.

You have two choices:

1.  Slightly pull the cable so that it is not “fully” seated, and it should work fine.

2.  Call Sandisk and get your Fuze replaced.

I chose option two.  I love the Fuze, but it seems that they had some QC issues, especially with the early models.  I found that the units I bought from Best Buy all had issues (e.g. Bad headphone jack, bad secure clock, bad SD slot), but when I worked with Sandisk directly the replacements they sent were flawless.

I took your advice on option 2. It was under a warranty at Future Shop, so they exchanged it. Same problem.

What I find odd is that you say the Fuze wouldn’t play on a USB car charger or wall charger.  Mine has always played using my car charger or my wall charger (before and after this firmware update).   I can’t play it when I plug it into my computer (as I will get the “Connected” screen on the Fuze), but if it’s plugged into something else then it just charges but works normally.

You’re using this FM transmitter and this car charger?

So when when both are plugged in the Fuze, all you hear is clicking sound?  What about when you only use the FM Transmitter?

When plugged into my wall charger, it will play. When plugged into my PC, it won’t. When plugged into the car charger it just clicks. When just playing to the FM Transmitter, it works fine. If I back the jack out about half way, it will play through the FM transmitter.

I have the same issue using  fm transmitter while charging. I posted on this a while ago and the answers I got pointed to a ground loop problem in the vehicle. It seems to mess it up when both the charger and the fm transmitter are both plugged into the power point. A poster said you can buy some sort of filter to fix this, I just never tried cause I hardly ever charge in the truck.

That seems like a reasonable explanation to your problem.

As an alternative, you could consider the Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for Sansa.  It’s both in one (charger and FM Transmitter) and works fine (well as far as FM Transmitters go - I own this it).
