Ok I have a 2 gig Fuze with a 2 gig SD card. I have almost 10,000 songs in my library. Thats a lot to remember and with putting files on the fuze I am finding myself getting duplicate files (up to 3 of the same). Its pretty uncool but I do use WMP. I know with my old Connect it said in the sync process it said “Already on device” Is there a setting or an upgrade I could put on it so I dont get the multiple copys?
Thanks ahead of time.
WMP never worked quite right, at least not for me (any version). If you’re willing to do this with your size of song database, I’d definitely recommend using drag’n’drop via My Computer instead. That way, you can make sure you’re only putting one of each song on your Fuze.
It might be putting a copy of the song on both the Fuze and the microSD card.

I noticed this evening that when I put files on the internal memory WMP sees the file and wont copy duplicates. Is there a way to do this with the external card? Or is there a way that I can set up so that I dont get one copy on internal and one on external?
I use WMP11 with my Fuze set in MSC mode to transfer over files to avoid duplicates. When I have the Fuze in MTP mode and use WMP11, I get duplicates and playlists don’t transfer over correctly.
I tried MSC mode and still got multiple copys. I am going to just use the Alphabet as my method to prevent duplicates for now. But if anybody has a better solution let me know. Maybe this could be in the firmwire

Forget WMP altogether and just drag & drop in MSC mode from your computer to your Fuze. That way if you get duplicates (which you most likely won’t) you’ll only have yourself to blame!
You can highlight multiple folders at one time and transfer them over. They’ll stay highlighted after copying so you know what just went over and where to start the next batch from.
The less attractive way to solve this problem is to go into My Computer/Windows Explorer and manually organize your music. I went so far at one point as to burn it all onto DVD’s, then erase it all off the computer completely(music manager libraries too) , and start fresh from the DVD’s . Before I did that, WMP11 was hopelessly bogged down and overwhelmed. Before I put the music back on, I also re-installed WMP11 and added MediaMonkey( which actually has a sub-menu for duplicate content, now that I think of it…that may be an easier alternative) In re-installing all the music though, I took the time to organize it better…and found I had fewer songs than I had thought. Anyways, there’s a couple of options
Regardless of communications mode, WiMP treats the internal and external memories (µSD card) as separate devices.
Just as you would have to do manually, watching that the card has different music requires the old manual user intervention anyway.
What you can do is watch the database display on the Fuze, and make note of duplications for a later cleanup.

There is an utility for this purpose - iTunes duplicate remover. iT helps with duplicates…
Thank you for your advise. I prefer Duplicate Mp3 Finder as it is much faster and performs a real audio scan.
For 100% duplicates I use thr Free Duplicate File Finder.
Cheers.
