Cilp Zip shuts down randomly and must be reset to power back on

I purchased a new clip zip about a week ago and have noticed that on 4 separate occasions so far the CZ has shut itself off completely while in the middle of playing a song. There is plenty of battery left. When I try to power it back on, it won’t.

The only thing that makes it work again is holding the power button for 30 seconds to reset it. Then it powers back up and works normally–minus all of my song ratings and settings, of course. :robotmad:

Does anyone else have this problem? I’m trying to find out this is an issue or if I just got a bad unit.

Thanks.

This issue is not a perennial issue for people–it is a particular player issue.  I’d try a reset, a reapplication of the latest firmware (see the firmaware upgrade sticky thread above), and/or a reformat.  If the issues remains, get an exchange player either at the original store or from SanDisk Customer Service.  In the U.S.:  1-866-SANDISK (726-3475).  And other SanDisk contact information:  http://www.sandisk.com/sandisk-support/contact-us

Does this happen on the same songs and/or in the same place in the songs? It might be something with the files that is causing the shut-down.

No, it’s not a common issue which makes me think it’s something peculiar with the files you are using on it.

It doesn’t happen on the same song. All my files are mp3s and are on internal memory. I’ve read through the forums looking at other issues, but there are no special characters in the song filenames or tags that the player shutdown on.

I’ve played the same songs again and again trying to get it to shut down, but it plays just fine through them when I try to reproduce the issue.

I’ll try marria’s advice of a format, re-upgrade latest firmware, and putting my files back on. Hopefully that will work.
