Audiobooks revert back to beginning when Clip turns off

I’ve had my Clip for a long time and until now it has worked great for audiobooks - until now. When I power the device on, it goes back to the beginning of my book - it won’t save my place anymore. I think this problem began when I forgot to recharge and the device ran out of juice as I was listening. Did I maybe lose some kind of setting that keeps my place? How do I fix it?
