After format, then what...

Hi all,

Just formatted my fuse 4 gb; here is what I would like to do now. In an effoer to keep things simple, I am not interested in playlists. I only want to folders. One music, one podcasts (aqudiobooks).

If I create these on my pc & drag the contents to the fuse, will everything function correctly? I did it this way before I formatted, & a lot of the files were not visible.

I could see them when connected to the pc, but when i powered the fuse up on its’ own, they were not there. I am hoping the format took care of this, or is theresomething else I need to do to make this work?

Thanks!

The latest firmware has folder view. Did you upgrade the firmware on your Fuze to the latest version?

Nope - I didn’t. What is the best way to go about doing that?

Disregard!

I downloaded the Sansa updater & have now installed the latest firmware. Guess my next step is to start adding folders/music!

Do I need to install the media converter as well, or is that not really necessary?

The media converter is necessary for video. For photos, you can use any image editing software to make small copies of your photos to put on the player. 220x176 is the smallest resolution you should use. I know 640x 480 will work, but don’t know the largest resolution that will work.

Ok, this hasn’t worked according to how I thoght it should.

After format, I created two folders; Music/Audiobooks. I added three folders, turned the Fuse on & what do you know, under the “music” heading in the menu, all the same stuff is there -

“Play all, recently added, artists, albums” & so on. Is there a way I can erase all that? I am trying to use this player in a simple manner, just turn it on7 go to my folders, but this way I have to go through several different menus to get to what I want.

There has to be an easier way to do this. Also, the folders that I created on my pc are not shown on the player. Any ideas on how to make this work?

Put the player in folder view. Choose Music, folders.

“Put the player in folder view. Choose Music, folders.”

I had done that previously, but it still requires me to scroll through several screens. Can I not simply view the folders like I can on my hard drive? Also, it renames the folders with a whole string of numbers in front of the artists name…

Does the formatting not erase all of the hierarchy that is put there by Sansa. That is what I would really like to do, as I have no use for it - it just adds to the clutter, IMO…

More bad news; When all the folders are viewed through this - “Put the player in folder view. Choose Music, folders.”…

It jumbles all the artists together; in other words, all music, audiobooks, etc. are listed all in the same area. I still cannot view these two folders I have created in the way that I wish to, such as looking at them on your hard drive as simply two separate folders.

If anyone has an idea on how to set it up to view like this, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks.

Wanted to update here, in case others’ may benefit from my findings -

The real way to avoid this kind of madness is to switch USB modes (under Settings/System Settings) from MTP–Media Transfer Protocol, which connects to WMP-- change this setting to MSC, which makes the Sansa work like a flash drive. (You’ll see two drives, for the internal memory and the card slot, in Computer or My Computer.) Then you can just drag-and-drop folders into the Sansa and see exactly what you’re getting.

I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again . . .

MTP = Malevolent & Troublesome Protocol

MSC = Most Satisfied Customers
