Will not turn on after charging it....

I just bought the Sansa C250 last night at Radio Shack, and I have a question…

I have it charging on my laptop, but when I unplug it, it will not turn on immediately… I had gone back to the store to return it this morning, but before I went in, I checked it again, and all of a sudden it turned on… Is there a reason for this (was it not charged enough or maybe too much?), or is it just defective?
