I have 5 sansa clips. All 5 worked until recently. I have one clip that evey time I plug it into my PC (xp) or Laptop (Vista) I get the message: USB Device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. etc, etc.
Why only the one sansa clip? I do not understand. The other 4 all work perfectly.
Sometimes this error messge occurs when the player in question is set to MTP mode and it (your computer) cannot find the necessary drivers for it (which are included with Windows Media Player 10 & later).
Check the USB modes of all the players. It could be the 4 that work are set to MSC mode and the one that doesn’t is MTP or (worse), Auto Defect.
I have tried in MTP and MSC mode. It doesn’t matter. I still get the same message. Now (maybe the battery is dead) I cannot get it to even turn on.
