sansa express doesn't turn on.

I can verify that the Reset procedure does work. I called tech support and they talked me through holding the Volume Up and Select buttons for 30 seconds, after which I pressed the On button and Voila! it worked again.

I have this problem too and I tried to make what they had said but did not advance, I pressured +volume/select button (button of the center) per 10 seconds but nothing he advanced, please help me…

The support person I talked with advised me to hold the Volume “+” button and the Select button together for 30 seconds, not 10 seconds. If that doesn’t work, I can only suggest that you call the toll-free Sandisk Support phone number (US) 1-866-726-3475 and ask the MP3 support to talk you through the recovery or reset procedure. You will need to have already registered your Sansa Express at the Sandisk site (https://www.customernation.com/pls/ps/ps.ps\_main?p\_host=304&p\_supplier=5096&p\_parm=PSHPP then click on “Register your product”). They will require your personal information and the unit’s serial number.

It worked very well for me. Good luck!

The hardware reset does not always work.  This player has problems.

Very bad for SanDisk’s product & company image.

I couldn’t agree more!

More problems than this player, only the company that made it… and the costumer who bought!

That issue that you are expiriencing is weird… never happend to me and i have 2 months with my player, and i do regular stuff with it. I format it frequently, do the firmware update when is needed, and im constantly syncing it with WMP, and no issues yet…

Do you remember what was the last thing that you did to the player before it became non-responsive?

This thing shut off on me after 2 days! I dont have the origanal packaging because It was working just fine and Sandisk is a good name. I tried the 30 seconds thing and I still have the same problem! Do I have to geet a memeory card? I only have 21 songs on it and I havent registered it yet because I gotta make sure my parents will let me. If this thing doesn’t work my dad will be furious with sandisk!

Mine did the same thing. I tried the reset with no improvement. Screen is black, it does not turn on, and the computer does not recognize it. I have had it for ONE day. So freaking annoying! I will be calling technical support tomorrow.

I have replied in the other thread titled Sansa eXpress!!! with instructions on what you could do to revive your player.

Here was my reply to that thread.

Try pressing and holding down the select (center) button, and the volume up (+) button at the same time. This can reset the player and could possibly resolve issue.

You didn’t mention it, but have you tried plugging the device into the computer? What happens when you do?

Also, do you have a MicroSD card available? There was another thread where some users have plugged in a MicroSD card and it can “revive” their player. The link to the thread can be found below.

Good morning all. Just like you my brand new, fresh from the package, Sansa Express stopped responding, and I had it in my possession less than 8 hours! I charged it as instructed. All seemed ok. First I tried the radio which worked well. Then I tried downloading some of my music. After a few songs downloaded I got a message that the device was disconnected, noticed that the icon was gone from the task bar and with the option to “skip” the song being downloaded. I replied “skip all”, then unplugged it from the USB. I tried turning it back on, nothing. I found how to do a “reset” so attempted that 3 times. On one of the startups, I thought it was ok so I plugged the earphones in and it immediately shut off. Ok, did 2 more reboots, then it came up ok and was able to play a few songs so I thought it was ok, again. This morning I checked it, started up right away but then shut off. Had to do another “reset”, then another after it shut off playing just one song. I tried another “reset” and it’s working. What is the firmware upgrade and where do I get it. If that doesn’t do the trick I will be so disappointed because I did some investigating before purchasing this product as it seemed to be a perfect fit…instead, it’s giving me fits!

Well after posting here and emailing tech support, it appears my Sansa Express is up and running and continues to work. I have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 11. What was happening was that when I plugged the Express into the computer it was being recognized but after downloading a few songs I would get a message that the device was “not responding or is disconnected” and the icon would disappear from the task bar. I tried playing what music did down load to the device but it would quit, shut off, after one song and I’d have to do a reset which didn’t always work.

I uninstalled the Updater and started from the very beginning following tech supports instructions. Originally I didn’t use the media player because I was under the impression “drag & drop” meant exactly that, that I could drag my music directly to the device so I was just dragging my mp3 music directly to the Express. The below steps are for media player 11, there are different steps for player 10 but these are the instructions I followed:

_To format your Sansa using Windows Media Player 11, please follow these steps:

  1. Plug your Sansa to your computer and run Windows Media Player 11.
  2. Click on either the “Library” or “Sync” tab.
  3. On the leftmost side, you should see your Sansa under the “Library” list.
  4. Right click the Sansa icon and then click “Format”.
  5. Click “OK” to confirm.
  6. After formatting, click “OK” to close the format dialog box.

Also, install the Sansa Firmware Updater in your computer to install the latest firmware upgrades, fix bugs and improve performance of your Sansa Express. Download the Sansa Firmware Updater by referring to the link below:

http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376_

After I Sync’d and “format” with the media player, I downloaded the Updater again and updated the firmware from 01.00.152A to 01.01.01. I then did “drag and drop” but went through Windows Media Player 11, all the music was transferred successfully and the device didn’t stop responding or shut off.

I did this last night and still this morning my Express is playing like a champ. I’m quite impressed with this little bugger. My only complaint now is that the earbuds don’t stay in which is quite annoying, they’re too big for me. But the sound quality is pretty darn good. I read reviews where they say the Express isn’t loud enough, well I think with the proper fitting earbuds the loudness would be much improved. So that’s my next hunt, looking for better fitting earbuds.

Here’s hoping my Express keeps on running.

The MicroSD card trick worked for me also.  I inserted a new 2gb Sandisk card and the player booted up properly.

“My only complaint now is that the earbuds don’t stay in which is quite annoying, they’re too big for me.”

I wrapped thin black foam (about 3/16-inch thick packing material) around each earbud and tied it on the round part with black thread, trimming off the excess. Now the earbuds, even though still not a really good fit, stay in my outer ears and sound pretty good. SanDisk should do better on this detail. But, for the price, I shouldn’t complain.

The same thing happend to my express after putting in the usb slot to charge it wouldn’t power up… then I found this forum and saw the little Vol +, Menu trick and it powered up lickety split. Weird though…

Also, does anyone know where I can get a replacement cap for the USB dongle? I lost mine… duhh…

Thanks in advance.

John:wink:
