i am new to this fourm thing, and i dont know if this problem has been adressed before, but it would be great if someone could help!
i have had my sansa e250 for about 2 or 3 years now i guess, and it has always worked fine.
i turned it on the other day and tried to play a song, but it said ‘bad track’. i know this can happen sometimes and thought nothing of it. but it happened with every song i played.
also, the player had all deleted the music off my playlists and when i went to album and artist views, it said there was nothing. but in song view, it said i had 754 songs on there.
i plugged it into my computer and deleted everything on the player, turned it on and it was still in the same situation, with 754 songs, no artists, or albums, and they were all ‘bad tracks!’
very frustrating. i’ve tried everything i can think of, like resetting everything and taking the battery out, all with the same result!
when the device is plugged into the computer, it shows that all the folders are empty. it says that no memory space has been used, it still has 1.8Gb of room left.(its only a 2Gb device)
so if anyone knows what the hell is wrong with it or what can be done to fix it, it would be greatly appreciated!
It’s possible your cord is going bad. But try to reformat through Recovery Mode. I’m hoping your E250 is a v1 unit–you won’t see Welcome to Recovery Mode on a v2, so we’ll have to try something else.
This is The Markster’s excellent step-by-step:
Now, to fixing the problem. The simplest way is to just reformat the player from Recovery Mode. This will delete all of your files, though. Here’s how:
Turn the player off.
Slide the HOLD switch to the locked position.
Press and hold the RECORD button while connecting to the PC.
Release RECORD once you see “Welcome to Recovery Mode” on the player’s screen.
You should now be able to find a new removable drive in My Computer called 16MB-FORMAT.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORMAT THE 16MB-FORMAT VOLUME!
:> Are we clear enough on that? <:
Open 16MB-FORMAT and create a new folder named sansa.fmt on it in the root directory. You can now slide the HOLD button back to the unlocked position, use the safely remove hardware icon, and unplug the player. It will notice the sansa.fmt folder and, upon seeing it, format itself and reboot.
You have no idea how grateful I am. I have had nothing but trouble forever with this thing. I haven’t been able to use it for 90% of the time that I have had it!!!
Now I can listen to my audio books and I am sooooo happy!
I have a e250 v2 how do I seprate playlists onto the my player from windows media player 12.I sync my playlists from the media player to mp3 player and no play lists when you go in to the platlist?

If you have a v1 model the daughter board (holding the main memory chip) might have come loose from the mother board. They plugged into the larger circuit board in the v1’s whereas in the v2 models they were soldered in.
Remove the back plate on the player via the 4 small screws holding it on. Above the battery near the headphone jack you should should see this smaller circuit board. There will be a small piece of grey foam padding on top of the memory chip (and board). Press down on this and see if you hear/fell it snap back into place. If so, re-assemble and the player should now work.
