sandisk professional 22TB

Can anyone help? When I click on “safetly remove hardware and eject media” I can see the g drive is recognised. When I use device manager, it is also recognised there

But for some reason I it does not show up on file explorer.

I have tried going into disk man, to initialise the drive, but I keep getting the error “the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error.”

Can anyone help please, as I am so angry that I a unable to access my drive. I really thought sandisk g drive was a premium device.

@raj1977 22TB would be an Hard Drive product.

Could you move it for me please?

Hi @raj1977,
It sounds like your drive is being detected by Windows, but not accessible due to a hardware issue. The error “fatal device hardware error” usually means the drive may have bad sectors or physical damage.

Here’s what you can try:

  1. Check the cable and port: Use a different USB cable or another computer to rule out a connection issue.
  2. Run a SMART check: Use a tool like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health status of the drive.
  3. Data Recovery: If the drive is failing but still detected, you can try using windows data recovery software to scan and recover important files before the drive gets worse.
  4. Warranty Replacement: If the drive is still under warranty and heavily damaged, contact SanDisk/WD Support for a replacement.

To save power, Windows sometimes automatically reduces or cuts off power to USB ports. This can cause large external hard drives to fail during initialization due to a sudden power drop.

Solution:
Open the Windows Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings. Expand USB settings, then change the USB selective suspend setting to Disabled.
Restart your computer and try again.

If the hard drive health check tool CrystalDiskInfo shows that your drive is healthy but still cannot be initialized, you can use the built-in Diskpart tool to force a cleanup:

  1. Right-click the Start menu and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Type diskpart and press Enter.
3.Type list disk and press Enter (carefully check the capacities to identify the disk number that corresponds to your G drive, e.g., “Disk 1”).
  3. Type select disk X (replace X with your G drive’s disk number; be extremely careful not to select the wrong disk, or other drives will be erased).
  4. Type clean and press Enter.
Note: If this step still results in a “fatal hardware error,” the drive is definitely physically damaged. (Also read: Fix Disk Is Not Accessible Error in Windows 11/10/8/7)
