Hello everyone,
I’m experiencing issues with my 512GB SanDisk Extreme SSD when connecting it to the*USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on my Windows PC. Here’s an overview of the situation:
-
Setup and Testing:
- My motherboard is X570 AORUS ELITE with the latest BIOS update.
- I’ve connected a USB 3.2 Gen 2 front panel adapter to the motherboard’s F_USBC31 header (the adapter I used is GRAUGEAR | Adattatore da presa Type-C a A-key, supporto USB 3.2 Gen2 Gen2 fino a 20 Gbit/s, cavo di espansione USB-C | cavo di estensione USB-C | cavo di lunghezza 50 cm | Key-A 20 pin header : Amazon.it: Informatica).
- When I connect the SanDisk Extreme SSD to this port with a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable, the drive warms up, indicating power, but it isn’t detected by Windows.
- I confirmed that the SSD works with the same cable on my MacBook Air (M1), and it’s also detected on the USB 2.0 ports of my PC, though obviously at lower speeds.
-
Troubleshooting So Far:
- I set the F_USBC31 port in the BIOS to Gen2, Auto, and even Gen1 to see if it would help, but none of these changes made a difference.
- I’ve also tested the port with other devices (such as my iPhone 15 Pro), and it works fine, so the issue seems specific to the SanDisk SSD.
- Unfortunately, the SanDisk software cannot detect the SSD when it’s connected to a USB 2.0 port, so I can’t perform a firmware update that way.
-
Additional Steps Taken:
- Updated all relevant drivers and ensured my BIOS is fully updated.
- Tried different USB cables and disabled other USB devices to check for conflicts.
- Verified the port’s power settings and disabled USB selective suspend in Windows.
I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions to resolve this, as it seems like a specific compatibility issue between the SSD and the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface on my motherboard. If anyone else has experienced a similar issue or if there are firmware updates available for the SSD that could help, please let me know!
Thanks for any help you can offer!
