Podcasts vs Audiobooks vs Audibles

What is the difference?

Let’s say I have a set of mp3 lectures that are properly tagged.

I tag one copy’s genre as Podcasts and place in podcasts folder.

I tag one copy’s genre as Audiobooks and place in audiobooks folder.

I tag one copy’s genre as Audibles and palce in audibles folder.

Now will they all behave differently on the fuze+?

Will they all give different options?

For example, there is something called chapter skip…but it evidently doesn’t apply to podcasts…

Assuming it’s just a series of lectures, what in your opinion is the best category to use?

Should I place them in Podcasts or Audiobooks or Audibles?

Basically, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Because they sound pretty much the same to me…

Thanks.

Audibles is only for content from Audible.com.

Audiobooks are not (currently) sorted into folders so you don’t want to put them there.  I don’t even know what “chapter skip” does.  I don’t think it will be useful to you though.

Podcasts ignore the track # tag, so likely you don’t want to put them there.

I would just tag them “lectures” (or nothing) and you will find them in the music section instead.  The music section has much less fuss than podcasts and audiobooks, and I really think the only feature you will lose out on is the ability to adjust the playback speed.  Is that important to you? If so I would tag them podcast, but it will sort by title alphabetically, so you may need to adjust your tags so they show up in the right order.

As you have discovered, the three modes are different, as well as the available functions.

Audible format books feature embedded chapter breaks within the file.  There is also a variable playback speed option.

Podcasts are sorted chronologically, also with variable speed, but no chapter skip within the file.

Audiobooks are separated from the general music population as well, and are grouped by book title.

Would it be possible to allow Audiobooks to be sorted by Track number? In the next update I mean. thanks.
