Playlist won't show up on Sansa Fuze

Please help.  I feel like I’ve read every thread on the web by now, and still haven’t managed to make this work.  I want to put playlists on my Sansa Fuze (not just the music as is demonstrated on the online videos, but an actual playlist), and I have tried MTP, MSC, and Autodetect modes as well as MM, WMP 11, and Winamp, therefore using both “pla” lists and “m3u” lists, dragging and dropping or synching to both “playlist” and “music” folders, and even fixing the playlist files so that that "\MUSIC" doesn’t show up on the file name.  Occassionally, I have managed to get a playlist name to show up on my sansa player, but when i select the playlist, there are no songs listed inside.  Apparently this can be due to a variety of reasons, but I haven’t found my reason yet.  Any help out there?  I am using Windows XP, btw.

Also, I cannot test my sansa on other computers due to a lack of computers in my area.

Thanks.

Alternatively, it would be nice to be able to organize the music on my sansa.  B/c I had to transfer all of my music from an older computer, my music files come in folders called “Unknown”, which makes finding my favorite songs very difficult.  That is why I want to create playlists or control the organization of my music somehow.

I use Playlist creator 3 (free)  and have no problems creating and using m3u files…

In MSC mode you can use it directly to the drive letter of your player or ext memory if you have any. What firmware are you running?  I’m not sure when they added playlist support.

I’d also suggest Media Monkey, it can tag existing albums by searching the internet including album art. Again it’s free.  Or for down-and-dirty use the “tag” command line tool (download free)  you can easily change the album titles, Or for a GUI use the free MP3tag and select all the songs and specify the album and save.

There are many programs to edit/fix tags out there… which you use or like is a personal choice… many are totally free

For MSC mode, Winamp is the easiest way to create playlists.  Just drag files from the Fuze into Winamp’s playlist editor, arrange as desired and save the m3u file directly to the Fuze.

You can do this now, just make sure you have the latest FW.  They added folder browsing in the lastest FW so if you use MSC mode you can create whatever file/folder structure you like and not use the tag based browsing at all.

As a final note, it sounds like your problems might all stem from significantly messed up tags (it’s why you’re seeing everything as “Unknown”.  Even thought the tags aren’t used to build the playlist, the Fuze still uses the tag info to display the songs in the playlist UI.  I would suggest getting MP3Tag (it’s free) and doing some basic tag cleanup.
