New drive not showing in dashboard

Hi all, I bought a 120gb SSD plus with the intension of replacing my old hdd in my laptop. I installed “dashboard” and connected my new drive with a usb to sata cable.

The drive does not show up in dashboard but shows as a usb mass storage device in devices and printers.

I don’t really know what i’m doing wrong here. I expected to connect it, clone my old drive onto it then install it.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

what kind of sata to usb cable are you using? some sata to usb briges can cause issue with the dashboard IIRC. if you are just looking to get the one time use cloning software you can get that at the following link.

Hi and thank you for very quick reply,

I’m guessing that is the problem, i just assumed any sata to usb would work. I will try it on my desktop tomorrow just to confirm.

I managed to borrow an external drive bay which worked great using the above link for cloning software, so easy and a very noticable diffrence in speed with the new drive. It’s like a new lappy :smiley:

Great but does Dsahboard now see the drive?
