Need Help: 128GB SanDisk Ultra Card Shows as Empty

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using a 128GB SanDisk Ultra memory card for a while. Recently, when I connected it to my computer to transfer some photos, it showed up as empty and gave an error about needing to be formatted.

I really need to recover these files. The card is recognized by the computer, but it either shows as empty or gives errors about corrupted files. I’ve tried it on another computer but got the same result.

Can anyone recommend methods to recover my data without losing anything? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

If your 128GB SanDisk memory card is showing up as empty or asking to be formatted, the first thing you should do is stop using it immediately. Don’t format the card or save anything new to it, as that can overwrite your lost files.

To recover your data, try using free recovery tools like Stellar Data Recovery, Recuva, or PhotoRec.

It’s also a good idea to check if the card is damaged using tools like H2testw (Windows) or F3 (Mac/Linux). If none of these options work and the data is important, consider using a professional data recovery service.

Don’t worry! Your SanDisk Ultra card is likely logically corrupted (filesystem damage), not yet physically dead.
Don’t format, don’t copy the files, and don’t run CHKDSK as they can sometimes cause more damage when corruption exists.
The best thing to do is to use a proper recovery tool. I would highly recommend Stellar Photo Recovery software. This photo recovery software is very capable of recovering lost files from any corrupt storage drive.
And, after successful recovery, if the card is physically fine (hardware-wise), you can reformat it and reuse it.
But if errors happen again after reformatting, throw the card away — it’s unreliable now.
