My Sansa 200c charges fine on my desktop but neither of my laptops recognize it and won't charge it.

Help - my battery still holds a charge for a long time and it charges fine on the laptop.  My netbook, even when plugged in to the wall, doesn’t recognize it and neither does a regular laptop.  When I plug itto either of the laptops the Sansa says “connected” and looks like it is charging, but I can leave it there for hours and nothing happens.

Laptops do a great job at conserving power; sort of their “Prime Directive” in Star Trek-speak, They however, do a terrible job at giving out power to the USB ports. It sorta goes against their grain, if you know what I mean. Netbooks are probably even worse.

Use your desktop or an AC-USB wall charger to charge your player.

Shore power, captain!  Rig the cables.

Plug your laptop in to AC power and see if charging resumes normally.

Here are some big shore cables.  TIme to break out the scrapers too.
