I am using MTP mode now. I do not download music but just put my music files in artist>song folders on my clip. I dont listen to FM or use features other than putting my music on and listening.
It seems like it may be better and easier to use MSC mode in order to work with the files and folders directly on the clip instead of copying them off and on clip or deleting and putting new ones on. I realize i would have to put all the music back on in MSC mode but would this be better?
And is it possible to have some music on in MTP and other in MSC and switch mode to access them as I cant see in one mode what was added in the other?
Thinking I might like to put all or part in MSC mode and even use both if possible. Or only MSC if just as good.
The only reason to use MTP is if you subscribe to Rhapsody, Napster or some service that rents out DRM-crippled music, or if you are lazy and want Windows Media Player to ‘sync’ your music from your computer to your player.
Otherwise, MSC is easier, more straight-forward, less confusing (for both you & your computer) and puts the control of what (and when) goes on your player and what doesn’t in your hands.
While you can put music on in both modes and the player will see all and play both equally well, it is a pain not being able to access songs put on ‘in the other mode’ without unplugging, waiting for the database refresh, changing the USB setting, pluggin back in, doing your business, un-plugging, etc, etc, etc.
Not to mention trying to remember what songs you put on in what mode. Once you get more than a handful of songs this will become impossible. So best to pick one mode and stick with it. If this means deletiing all and starting over reloading everything, then so be it. You’ll only have to do it once (unless you change your mind).
Just my opinion. I’m sure there will be others equally fond of MTP mode who try to convince you that mode is better. In the end, you have to make your own decision. Personally I have no need (or desire) for MTP mode. Others may.

I have to agree with Tapeworm. MTP doesn’t buy you anything unless you use DRM protected music. Just use MSC and you won’t wonder where your music went when your Clip doesn’t connect in MTP mode on some computers.
