How are you trying to format your player?  If through My Computer, make sure the player’s in MSC mode.

its in msc mode but i click format it takes about a secont and it says windows cant complete format

I have a windows xp if that helps any

You might try defragment prior to format. I had a similar problem, but it also wouldn’t delete/add files as well. After defrag and deletion of all files, it works like it’s supposed to.
