''lost+found'' folder appeared, everything else disappeared

Hi everyone, so I put all my photo albums from more than 8 years on my 4tb extreme SSD drive. A day later I get up, the photo albums are missing and instead there’s a ‘‘lost+found’’ album with random folders and some files inside.

After some research I found out there’s a firmware update for the 4tb drives and when I wanted to download it and put in the serial number it said that these ones are not ‘‘impacted’’ from the issue… I don’t know what to do, I have very important and valuable photos and videos of my dad from when he was alive, not to mention every single life event since 8+ years on there… Is there a way to know what this ‘‘lost+found’’ is supposed to mean? The drive size seems to be the same as the size of the photo albums I had, I’m hoping that’s a good sign…

thanks in advance!

Hi @sebalex,

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the SD Technical Support team for best assistance and troubleshooting:

It’s possible that your photo albums were deleted or corrupted, and that the “lost+found” folder contains some of the remaining fragments of the files. SanDisk may be able to help you recover your photos if they were corrupted due to a firmware issue.
However, you may have to use recovery software like Stellar Photo Recovery to recover your corrupt photos, which can be repaired with the same tools as well.

In terms of solutions, have you tried using a data recovery tool like EaseUS to retrieve any lost files? It might be worth giving it a shot if you haven’t already. EaseUS is really user-friendly and effective, so it’s definitely worth a try.
