I have new extreme portable drives, and since last week a folder has gone completely empty that a project was in. Probably 2gb of data, (Mac), and when I go to that folder its completely empty. All other folders and data is there still and no, I did not accidentally delete anything. Im freaking out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Actually no, I haven’t sorted it out. It appears I got two faulty hard drives… Pretty disappointed because I had to pay for a recovery software to recover everything, and the hard drives were $200 each in the first place.
It looks like this there were a few failure prone models from San Disk that had this widespread issue, in all of my research, etc.

Have you checked if the files were accidentally hidden?
If the file system of the external SSD has been corrupted, the files won’t show up.
Pressing Command-Shift-.(the period key) together will show the hidden files on a Mac.

Here are some possible reasons:
Windows automatic upgrade or update (desktop files and installed apps are the most likely to be removed).
The virus deleted or hid personal files.
You logged in to a new user account.
The drive is failing.
