Loss of data on my SanDisk 4TB drive.

My SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro SSD is not showing a folder where I have most of my files. Model of the SanDisk SSD is SDSSDE81-4T00. The SanDisk 4TB drive is always connected to my Windows 11 laptop. There is no lost and found folder showing. I called support and they told me to run the RescuePro app. I originally ran the non commercial version of it without a license while I was on the phone with support. I received a Warning on the scan: Unable to save temporary disk data, No more free space. Retry? I cancelled out to run the version of RescuePro that support suggested and they also gave me a license. I uninstalled my original version of RescuePro and installed the one support sent me a link to. Once I installed I ran the Scan again and it show 381 files and most are .tmp files. I lost much more than 381 files. I had as a folder structure structure on the SSD E:\Work and then about 14 folders below. All folders are there except for the one labeled “Thorndale UMC”. In the Thorndale UMC folder I had about 30 subfolders and each had many files. The files consisted of mp4, jpg, pnp, pptx, docx, pdf, etc. I’m looking for a way to recover the files.

Have you applied firmware updates?

Yes, I have checked the Knowledgebase and I’m working on the recovery. The problem is the doc for the RescuePro say you need up to twice the amount of disk space to do the recovery. Well is my C drive is 1 TB and my SanDisk is 4 TB it is always going to run out of space. I just bought a 8TB drive to see if that helps but I’m thinking not because the recovery is putting temp files on my C drive and that where is is running out of space.

Yes, I have checked the firmware and it is up to date.

I went to do a firmware upgrade and the update program said I was up to date.

Since RescuePro is only showing temporary files, it’s likely reading orphaned fragments rather than the original structure. First, stop writing anything to the SSD, because new writes can overwrite recoverable data. Then, try a dedicated file-recovery tool that handles deep scans and preserves folder structure. Run the recovery to a different drive, not the SSD itself. If the folder still doesn’t appear, consider making a sector-by-sector image of the SSD using a tool like Macrium Reflect or dd before attempting aggressive recovery, so you can retry without risk. In short: avoid writing to the SSD, use a professional recovery tool, and recover to a separate drive.

Do not write any new files to this SSD now, and do not attempt to repair the file system on the original disk using tools like chkdsk. It is recommended to try third-party disk recovery tools, which are more effective at handling partition table corruption and lost folder structures.

Ensure that both the 4TB SanDisk and the 8TB backup disk are connected to the Windows 11 laptop.

Run the data recovery software. After opening the software, scan the SanDisk SSD physical hard drive (do not select only the E partition).
Save all recoverable files to the 8TB hard drive.
