SanDisk RescuePRO Deluxe software made my Windows PC unmanageable

Hi,
I am new here and didn’t find any category on SanDisk RescuePRO Deluxe software issues.

I have a 1TB SSD that is a few years old but hasn’t been used a lot as it was quickly too full to hold all of my Lightroom Classic’s catalog and pictures. So I decided to use it for keeping Lightroom’s smart Previews. For some reason it became corrupt, while this SSD model has top score for reliability and longevity. It however is out of warranty.

I tried using SanDisk RescuePRO Deluxe software to recover its content. I tried to define where the recovered files should be hold, but didn’t find how.

The result is that my main drive got full. I’m not sure if it did recover all or only part of the files. I had to delete the recovered files with the intention to try again but using another (external) drive. I get into problems as soon as I open some applications now. Lightroom can’t make a catalog backup anymore, even if that drive has many times more capacity (1,3 TB) than what it needs to save the catalog.

What can I do to:
(1) free all of the (hidden?) space allocated to RescuePRO Deluxe’s rescued data?
(2) choose another drive to hold the temporary rescued files?
(3) rescue the files along with their original name and/or path?
(4) is there another version of RescuePRO Deluxe that gives more options?

RescuePRO filled your main drive because it saves recovered files there by default. To fix it, clear out the folders it created and run Disk Cleanup to free space. When you try again, set an external drive as the save location, not the drive you’re recovering from. Just know file names and folders usually won’t be restored, since recovery tools often can’t rebuild them. RescuePRO Deluxe doesn’t add more options for that, so if you need full structure recovery, you may need different software like Stellar Data Recovery.

@johnjacobb40 Thank you very much for your answer, and the options you provide.
Many users think it is not possible to set an external drive as the save location, because the interface is confusing. It looks like we can only set up the source, not the drive to temporary save the recovered files. Can you explain where and how I can do that?
That would help me greatly. Thanks.

Kind regards,
Thierry

@ThHoornaert you’re right the RescuePRO Deluxe interface can be confusing. To save recovered files to another drive, start a recovery, then look for the “Destination” or “Save to” option after the scan but before the recovery begins. Pick your external drive there, and if you want, turn on the option to keep original filenames and folders. On some versions, this option might be under “Advanced” or “Options.” Doing this will keep your main drive from filling up and let you safely recover files to another location.
