This is a sansa e260. I have downloadied the firmaware (I believe it is v1), started in recovery mode extracted the zip files moved them to the 16mb format drive (I even created a new file and named it sansa.fmt). Nothing is working. How can we fix this problem?
Remove the metal rear cover. Above the battery module, there’s a black rectangle. Within it, there’s a grey foam block. Give it a gentle press downward, and see if the memory board is loose.
Reassemble your sansa and see if it starts up normally. When you transferred the firmware and bootloader files, did you unzip / extract / decompress them first?

I did what you suggested and it was not loose. I still have the same problem. I downloaded the firmware zip file and extracted it to the desktop. I moved the files to the device (16mb format file).
