How to format my 128GB SD card to FAT32?

Hey guys. I have a 128GB SD card that I need to format to FAT32 so it can work with my camera.

I tried formatting the card on Windows using Disk Management, but it won’t let me choose FAT32 for a card this big. The option is grayed out, and I can only select exFAT or NTFS. How to format a large SD card to FAT32? Any free methods or tools that actually work would be really helpful.

Windows won’t let you format drives over 32 GB to FAT32, which is why your 128 GB SD card only offers exFAT or NTFS. The easiest way around this is to use a free tool like GUIFormat (FAT32 Format), MiniTool Partition Wizard, or AOMEI Partition Assistant, which can handle large cards. On Linux or macOS, you can use the command mkfs.fat -F 32 to format any size card. Remember, FAT32 can’t store files larger than 4 GB, so for bigger files you’ll need exFAT. On Windows, GUIFormat is usually the quickest and most reliable solution.

If you camera is mired with FAT32 I recommend moving images from a 32GB card regularly so that the SD card will be ready for more.

Use the USB cable for the camera to access images.

The SD card standard also calls for exFAT on cards > 32GB. Older cameras may not be able to use exFAT so they will be limited to 32GB cards.
