Fuze refuses to connect or charge.

I just bought a Sansa Fuze to replace my ailing view, and everything worked well for one day. I was able to load it up with my music, and had no problems whatsoever.  However, the next day, when I went to plug it in to my computer, windows popped up a notification saying that the USB device had encountered an error and wasn’t working properly (I forget the exact wording).  The Fuze itself said “writing” and then “connected”.  This same error showed up every time I tried to connect the Fuze.  Thinking that it might be a Windows issue, I restarted the computer, and tried again, but this time, nothing happened whatsoever.  The Fuze still says connected, but there’s no sign of it on the computer.  It’s not showing up as a disk, nor is it showing up in Device Manager.

I’ve tried the followed to resolve this:

Reset the Fuze by holding the power button up for 30 seconds.

Tried multiple computers, with the same result on all of them.

Tried multiple USB ports.  Same result.

Reset settings to factory default.

Formatted the internal memory.

Tried MSC, MTP, and Auto-Detect modes.

Tried two different sandisk cables (the one from my Fuze, and the one from my old View).

Etc.

I also have the newest firmware.

I’m at a complete loss here.  Is my Fuze just a lemon?

Have you tried switching the USB modes? MSC mode is easier to connect in, whereas MTP requires drivers in WMP.

Whoops.  Forgot to put that in the list of things I’ve tried.  I’ve tried MSC, MTP, and Auto-detect.  When it was working, I was using MSC.  Besides, if the mode was the issue, windows would still detect a device of some sort or another, but it’s not detecting anything at all. :frowning:

Have you tried everything the OP tried?

I’ve tried it on two computers running XP SP3, and one which I believe is running SP2.

I assumed (Possibly incorrectly) because you had the View that your PCs had Windows Media 11 installed. If you dont have WMP11 Download that (Even if you dont wanna use it) because this comes with the drivers for MTP mode. This may allow you to connect in one mode at least.

I do have it installed, and I tried MTP mode, but again, nothing happens.  The trouble is that the computers don’t even recognize that a device has been plugged in at all.  If it was a driver issue, I would be getting a “Unknown Device” entry in the device manager.

Call Tech Support before you just return it, those guys know tons of little tricks to get these things workin.

Alright, I tried calling tech support, and they were just as stumped as I was.  I guess it’s time to return this thing. :frowning:

May just have been a lemon.
