I am going to answer all three of your questions here and in the future be advised that one thread would do the trick, even if you have multiple questions.
The Firmware update works on the player which operates based on the firmware, the card has nothing to do with it, in fact you can swap out cards no problem.
The refresh Database is a tricky one to answer because it is different for everybody. I saw how many files you have and on the first refresh I wont be freaked out by it. HOWEVER if you add or subtract 1 song, it shouldnt be that long.
As for why your songs dont show up… Format your card. Hook up to your computer and use windows to format it. It needs to be in 32 bit clusters. Doing this may help with the refresh speed problem too.
