Cruzer Glide 32GB defect?

I purchased a new Cruzer Glide 32GB and transfered about 17GB worth of files into it.  I inserted it into the usb of a destination PC but the PC (Windows 8.1) wants to format it.  I am not able to open it at all.  Is it defective?  When I insert another Cruzer Glide into the same PC, it opens a window with the files just fine.

    Hi PgWarrick,

_ Dear member of SanDisk Community, welcome. _

Please, put the Cruzer Glide 32 GB, which has the 17 GB, on the same PC where you stored, or in other Pc i_n which the UFD works well,_ and make a Backup of your content.

Then, do the following, perhaps have corrupted the File Table.
In _ Start/My Computer, _ in  icon on the UFD, click the right mouse button, and then click Properties/Tools/Error Checking and Repair.

Luck, and then you tell us, what happened, please.

Regards, Alfred.                                                               (Google translated)

When attempting the repair, message:  “The disk check cannot be performed because the disk has not been formatted.  Would you like to format the disk?”

I click “Yes,” but after a couple of windows, I arrive at another error:  “Windows was unable to complete the format.”

Forgot to mention, I get the same result on both the original and destination computers.

   Hi,

I sorry, if in different  PCs not work, is dead …
Return it, is in warranty.

But, meanwhile, you can try give format, in different PCs, with two small portable applications (free), are third party tools, very easy to use:

-   USB Flash Format (HP) 2.23        http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10505/kw/USB%20%20Format
USB Flash Repair (LLF) 2.91       http://filecloud.io/4a8xigqz

Luck.

Regards, Alfred.

There are probably just issues on those drive. It will give you the option to just ignore and continue. Do you have that option too?

I ended up buying a new one.  Don’t know why it was defective, but it was.

Thanks anyway all.

:smileyvery-happy:  OK!
