Connect My Book Essential 500 GB To Network Through USB on Router

I have a wireless router that allows you to connect a USB drive to a network. If I connect my drive to it I can access it from my network. Is there a way to get the back up SmartWare software to work. It would be nice not to have to plug it in to the computer.
