Backup files in my computer to My Book Essential 3TB being used as a network storage

I have a My Book Essential 3TB which is being connected directly to my Netgear router as a network storage.  I still would like to use WD SmartWare to backup my files in my computer to My Book, however WD SmartWare cannot detect My Book and therefore I cannot do the backup. Can anyone help help me out?  Thank you.

Smartware will not backup USB drives on the router

you can get a My Book Live if you want to do that from the network
 or try looking for other software for backups with your current setup

as a last resource you can manually backup your files
