Clip powers off

Hi,

I have been using the Clip for about 8 months, and it’s a great little MP3 player.

Never had a problem until I loaded the 29a firmware. Now it powers off for no reason when I’m using it and even when I’m charging it. When I’m using it, it powers off every hour or so. When I’m charging it, it powers off every couple of hours. I just power it back on and it resumes what it was doing.

Since the only thing I’ve changed is the firmware, how can reload the new firmware without formatting the whole thing?

Also I found the 18a firmware on this forum. How can I load the old firmware? I might try the old code if reloading the new code doesn’t fix it.

It may not be the code, because it seems that no one else is having this problem.

If you think I should format the Clip, can I copy my music and album info to my PC and then copy it back after I format it?

Lots of questions and it’s not urgent, just a little annoyance.

Thanks,

Del

Any chance it’s the Sleep setting (Settings…Power…Sleep)??  If not, try resetting the Clip by holding the power button up for 10-15 seconds, letting the power button go, and then turning the Clip back on.  If that doesn’t work, revert back to 01.01.20 firmwareand see if the problem continues.  If the wacky behavior stops then update the firmware back to 01.01.29.  The music files can stay on the Clip during the firmware changes.  Let us know what happens.  Good luck.

Hi,

I received some great help from tech support, and I was able to put 17a and then 29a firmware on the Clip.

I did it that way, because I wasn’t sure if I was actually reloading 29a.

So far, my problems seem to be gone. I guess the original 29a firmware was corrupted.

SanDisk Tech Support was a big help.

I will let you know if I have any more problems.

Thanks,

The Clip will look like it’s powering off with the new firmware- what you’re seeing is the timeout for the OLED display at 60 minutes.  It will go black, and the familiar “connected” logo will turn off.

If you touch the center button, the display will wake up.  This change was made to save the diaplay from unnecessary wear and tear.

That could be when I am charging it. I will check to see if my computer still sees the Clip if it ever “powers off” again.

It would also power off when I was using it, I mean it was really powered off. The music would stop and only the power on switch would work.

It may not power off again. I will let you know.

Thanks again,

Del
