Clip+ brand new, screen blank, any ideas?

Hi I just recently bought a new (supposedly) Sansa Clip+ 4GB MP3 player. I unpack it and everything, I read the quick start guide and proceed to charge via USB. It was detected OK, I even rename the device and start syncing it with WMP. So far so good I thought, but when I looked at the screen it was blank, no message, no charging icon, nothing. It’s strange because it is recognised and I can explore the folders fine, which leads me to believe it is a problem with the screen display.

I disconnected the device after about 2 hours or so of charging to see if I could get anything when it is disconnected from the computer. I can’t get anything, no response. I reread the quick start guide and try to reset the device by holding down the power for at least 20 seconds and turning it back on, there is still no display. I connect earphones and listen for a slight crackle to indicate its alive but I don’t get anything.

I reconnect the device to the computer via USB and download the firmware downloader, then I install and run it. The firmware is apparently already up to date, the only thing I can download is a full user manual, which I download anyway. The odd thing is whilst the device is connected to the computer I can hold the power button down on the mp3 player and it will remove itself from my computer. Following that I can press the power button once and it will redetect it and ask me if I want to sync files to it.

I bought the device from Amazon.co.uk, I don’t know if it is reconditioned or what but it was sold as new. Is there anything I can do to get it working and does anyone know anywhere I can buy a Sansa Clip+ from a reliable stockist in the UK?

Have you tried holding the power button for about a minute?

I bought this MP3 Sandisc,  4GB at Best Buy. I had no problems with it for about three days, then I could not turned it off.

It can be charged and used until battery need charging.

I gave had no help in fixing it

Seems like the power button is jammed

Contact the seller for an exchange.  When connected, the OLED display will illuminate; it blanks after one hour when connected.  If you have just established a connection, it absolutely should be illuminated.  Sounds like a dead display.

Thanks for the replies, yes I think the display is faulty  I’ll have to send it back to Amazon for a refund (they don’t offer replacements at the moment). It’s a shame retailers don’t stock the player over here, I can only find it online. Ah well, I still want a Clip+, my search continues
