Can't sync DRM-protected WMA files

I have OverDrive and wasn’t able to play it either.  I tried it various ways and it kept saying the certificate or firmware required an update…called Support and was told to do a Format…worked fine afterwards.  Also be sure that you also downloaded the security requirement from Overdrive for WMA files…there is a link on  their website to microsoft for the security upgrade needed.

Sibion,
I have noticed the same problem with the time display only after I fastfoward. When I play the file normally and past the hour, it displays fine.

I purchased the sansa clip just for the purpose of listening to audio books from the library.  I was unable to transfer books to the player from Overdrive Media console. That is - until I read these posts. I formatted my sansa clip from the clip menu as suggested.  I am now able to transfer and play overdrive audio books.  Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

this thread has really helped a bunch of people!

I tried the “format” instructions you gave, and it worked! Some protected files were transferring and some were not, all from the same music service, so go figure… But all are working now. Thanks so much!!

A netlibrary audiobook was failing to synchronize to my player, but after formatting, it seems to be synchronizing fine (very slowly!).  I have not yet had a chance to test the time properties.

Yeah it sure helped me!  I posted this same question to the anythingbutipod forums, but they were not helpful.  Thanx to all!  That was the only beef I had with this player, but now that there’s this solution I want to get another Clip, the silver one. ;D

I did attempt the format on the device itself and also in wmp11 and I went to micrsoft and updated the security from the link provided on page one, and NO GO, the error message unable to obtain device certificate, contact Microsoft still pops up.  I am in MTP mode, because when I use MSC mode it tells me I have to sync to continue my subscription.  I have an older Sansa Clip and it works perfect in MTP, no need to format and transfers every time, this new one is the problem…additional help please!

Im writing from Denmark where a lot of people have the same problem. In a danish forum I found a solution which helped me at once. Im now the happy owner of a sansa clip- before i was an extremly irritated one.

I will try in my best english to explain how I did. I have borrowed the first part of the instruction from an former user, but the last part is different

6)      Press center button.

Im usesing windows media player.

It is now possible to borrow books from the liberay. It worked at once for me

What I dont understand is why sandisk doesnt make better instructions.

I use Overdrive library files all the time.  It is the main thing I use my clip for.  Number 1, have up updated your firmware for the clip.  Even if you just bought it you should make sure you have the latest firmware on it.  Check this board, up near the top of the discussion board there is usually the latest firmware upgrades and instructions.  Next, download the latest overdrive media program from your library site.  Don’t try to use the Windows Media player for this stuff it just confuses the player and your computer.  Once you have the Overdrive Media player set up and you have the updated firmware on your clip you can download content with the overdrive media player and transfer directly to your clip.  When I do things this way my DRM protected files expire on the computer at the end of their “check-out” but the stuff on my clip stays until I delete it.  One other advantage to having the latest firmware is the “Audiobook” folder that bookmarks audiobooks better than the regular music files.

I have never used NetLibrary but if they have a program designed to download their files it might be easier to use thier software than WMP.  In my experience WMP just gets cranky about DRM protected files.

I really hope this helps.

this is the error when I try to download protected books:

An error occurred with this operation, please check your device’s disk space and connection to the computer, and retry this transfer.

My device is connected and communicating- I’ve downloaded non-protected books.  I also know- by looking at storage space available on the device- that there is plenty of room on it.

I changed the usb mode to mtp using the instructions provided by the Danish guy.  I’m downloading books from oneclick digital- accessing library books.  Argggghhhhh!!!
