can't load video on fuze

Hello y’all. well like eveybody else im having trouble getting the fuze to play videos. if anyone knows of a fix i would be

deaply happy.    thanks

Not everyone has problems.  I don’t.  I can load about 98% of the videos on my fuze.

I use Anydvdconverter software first.  Then I use SMC.  SMC can work for some smaller or shorter videos, but not long or full length movies.  You need to convert them first.

I have about 40+gb of movies on various cards.  15+gb of tv shows.

There’s also an SMC board with more info…

The video playback capability of Fuze is very limited. As far as I found out Fuze “directly” supports one particular format which is produced by Sandisk Media Converter program (SMC) only:

Container Format: AVI

Video:

Codec: DX50 (or DivX 5.0)   <---- This is the major limitation, DivX encoding codec is not free!

  Size: 224x176

  Frame Rate: 20fps

  Bit Rate: approximate 670-680kbps

Audio:

  Format: MP3

  Encoding: 128kbps

  Symbol Rate: 44.1 kHZ

  Channels: 2

Biggest limitation is the DivX 5.0 codec which is not supported as output format by most Free/OpenSource converter programs. It’s frustrating because DivX encoder Codec is not freely available so you cannot use a free program such a MediaCoder to generate files suitable for direct play on Fuze.

If Fuze supported a couple more more easily accessible video codecs, say H.264, the life could be much simpler. This is particularly limiting for Linux users. Under Windows XP, the latest version of SMC is buggy and will often lock up at the end of conversion and writing to the Fuze. It also requires Fuze to be connected as well. So, you cannot do batch conversions…

Of course, SMC will not support a wide range of video formats or has other limitations even on the files it seems to support as input format either. So, sometimes you end up doing double conversion which will decrease the quality of files even further…

After dealing with this situation for a while, video playback capability to Fuze seems to have been added to satisfy the marketing/sales dept. folks so they can claim support of Video playback like Apple iPod Nano… The feature seems to be an after thought. :frowning:

Unfortunately, there’s more to it than that. It’s easy to create a DivX-compatible video with a DX50 FourCC without using DivX itself- for example, you can use the (free) xvid codec and mencoder’s -ffourcc option to change the code from XVID to DX50. But I’ve tried that and the video still won’t play on the Fuze.

We won’t know what the Fuze’s rather strict video requirements are until someone reverse-engineers the firmware, I guess. I’d do it if I knew where to start!

Have a readof this thread, it has alot of information you need.

Since you mentioned you’re having trouble playing videos on your fuze, I’m going to assume you’re having trouble loading them onto the fuze as well.  It took me a while to figure out how to get a video properly installed onto my fuze too.

As was previously mentioned try to get any-DVD-convertor to work as it seems to be the tool of choice for most users on this board.

When I tried to download it (several times), one of the files didn’t work for some reason so I gave up on it and had to look elsewhere.

If you’re unable to get any-DVD-convertor to work, try the following link (http://www.effectmatrix.com/free-DVD-copy/).  It’s a free download from Effect Matrix that allows you to rip DVD’s onto your computer and then to your fuze by using the SMC.

I usually use WMV format and change the video resolution to 224x176.  I leave the other setting on default.

The rip process is time consuming, but I hope this helps.
