I looked in several threads and couldn’t find an answer. I just updated the firmware on my 8gb Clip. When connected, Windows Explorer shows the music there (I can even play it from Explorer), but on my device, “Songs”, “Artist” “Albums” etc are reading “empty”. What do I need to do? Thanks.

Just a guess here… but after a firmware update the device always goes to “auto” usb connectivity mode. If your music was added in the msc mode, your music will not be accessible until the usb mode is manually changed to msc.
If music is added in mtp mode it will only be accessible if the player is in that mode
If muisc is added in msc mode it will only be accessible if the player is in that mode.
Again, this is just a guess, but it has happened to me in the past…
Fixed. OK, I copied all the music (just bought it yesterday) over to WMP and then re-sync’d and it appears to be working fine now.
Same thing happened to me. Fuze_owner-GB is just about right, except in my case I had set the USB mofe to Auto Detect before the firmware update. After the update many of the directories were missing when viewed in Windows Explorer.
Further investigation showed that the USB mode had been changed to MSC during the f/w upgrade. Setting it back to Auto Detect made the directories re-appear in Explorer.
So no need to re-sync.

Auto-detect is only going to confuse things at some point down the road. Try both MSC and MTP, and whichever one your music shows up in, stay there…because anything added in one will not be visible in the other…can’t emphasize that enough!!!

Interesting… I have 4 sansas and after every firmware upgrade, the units went to the auto mode.
