BSOD when installing Windows 7

Hello everyone,

I just put together a new build. Specs:

Gigabyte Z77X UD5H (has 2 faulty RAM slots right now, so I’m running one 4 gig stick instead of the intended 8 gig)

Intel i5 3570K

4GB DDR3 Patriot Viper Xtreme 1866 MHz (one stick)

750W Corsair HX750 PSU

A very, very old Seagate HDD

Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD

I first did a fresh Win7 install on my old HDD (just to test out the system) and the system worked fine. Next, I ignored the HDD completely and tried a fresh Win7 install on my brand new Sandisk SSD, but it BSOD’d on me every time, rarely getting me through the Welcome screen.

I went into my BIOS, changed the SATA operation from AHCI to IDE and RAID (seems that worked for someone else who had this problem in this forum). Nothing works. I get BSOD ~5 seconds into the installation. RAID was the worst; the Welcome screen just froze)…

I can rule out:

  1. The SATA cable

  2. The SATA ports

  3. PSU/power cable

I am not sure what my firmware version is and not sure how to check that out. I hope that’s enough info.

Please, any help will be greatly appreciated. I need to get this fixed ASAP because the mobo is getting RMA’ d soon.

Thanks!
