so i bought my sansa fuze about 2 months ago. i love it. but its acting weird and some of the bottons wont work. any one know the return policy/warranty on the fuze? i still have my receipt.
Take it back to the retailer or raise an RMA.
To raise an RMA you need to create an E-Box & register the Fuze, via the Support option at www.sandisk.com
Depending on where you live in the world, RMAs can be a bit slow & you will have to pay postage to return the device. So if you bought it at a local shop, try there first…
Personally, I’d get a replacement from Sandisk. I honestly think the players supplied to Best Buy are inferior. I know there’s no rationale for this, but if you look at my “fuze experience” you’ll see from below.
1. Purchased Fuze from Best Buy - Bad case fit would cause SD Card to become unseated causing “refreshing data” message almost every time I used the player.
2. Returned defect to Best Buy and replaced Fuze with one from Best Buy. - Internal Clock issue prevented any playback of DRM content (thus no workie with Rhapsody)
3. Returned defect to Sandisk and Replaced Fuze with one from Sandisk - Perfect…until…it got stolen…
4. Bought new Fuze from Best Buy - Bad headphone jack… would cause clicking if headphones fully inserted. had to slightly pull headphones out to get sound.
5. Replaced Fuze with one from Sandisk - Perfect…still using…loving it…
So in short… ALL THREE that I got from Best Buy had some sort of manufacturing defect. The two that arrived from Sandisk direct…Perfect.
Coincidence? Maybe… or Maybe Best Buy purchases lower cost product that comes from a different fab… Or maybe it’s just the luck of the draw… Whatever the case… All three Fuzes from best buy were garbage…the ones direct from the factory are flawless. You be the judge.
Wow, thats a lot of coincidence. Bought 8g at BB it works fine. There is another possibility or two for your situation.

Some BB allow people to return things opened. This might have happened to you. Someone returns it with a problem w/o telling anyone and it gets resold. It happens.
-
Sandisk may have checked out the ones they sent you because they didn’t want the chance of you having more trouble.
3. You have to steal to get a good one! Just kidding.
LOL - Maybe the thief had similar experiences…
You have to steal, or be a victim of theft, or get one direct from Sandisk…
What a world we live in.:smileyvery-happy:
Anyway… Love my Fuze…I just hope the next firmware update fixes up with some of the glitches it has with Rhapsody. I know Rhapsody is problematic, and that “buggy” client is no help. I just hope Sansa and REAL can get some of the kinks worked out.
Had an E280R before and it was heaven…but only supported 2GB cards…(Whahhhhh).
p_opus , it sounds like we share the same kind of luck.
With Best Buy, I’ve had the opposite experience, however. None of the devices I’ve picked up locally have had any problems.
Though in retrospect, I should have grabbed a few spare R series Sansas while I had the chance. The original Rhapsody Sansa uses Real RAX format natively, and will synchronize from anywhere, since the license is for the device and not the individual tracks.
The RhapPFS system works well as long as you know the limitations, being WMDRM. Transfers are a bit slower, because of the leaf licenses within the tracks, and the resulting encryption.
The tradeoff with the new Fuze is the different case and the cool new processor. Well, there are lots more cool things, too long to list here… not the least of which being µSDHC support.

Ususally on an RMA, SanDisk will give you a link (in your E-Box) to a pre-paid shipping label that you print out on your computer’s printer and attach to the package, so they pay to ship it back to them.
It does take some time though to get a replacement this way. Sometimes a few weeks, so if you are within a return/exchange window at the retailer it would definitely be better to go that way.

p_opus, I have had the opposite experience. My Fuze came from a Best Buy and has worked flawlessly. I have heard people suggest that certain stores get less than perfect examples, but usually that’s in regard to Wal-Mart and the like. Sorry to hear about your luck!

Same here. I’ve purchased plenty of products from BB, without any significant issues at all. I don’t think I’ve EVER had to return a defective product purchased there.
Neutron,
I am well aware of the RAX integration with the R series. I am quite an active poster on the Rhapsody boards, and know very well how well designed the R series were. I also understand the reason for it’s death (no other vendors wanted to support .rax)
I know I have to accept RhapPFS (which is based on Microsoft’s Plays Not For Sure. I just hope REAL and Sansa can work better to get the individual track licenses to update. I agree that RhapPFS is a kludge compared to HELIX DRM but it’s the best we have.
It’s a shame Microsoft won’t license their new DRM technology that they use for the Zune’s as Zune users rarely complain of licensing issues. Unitl something changes we have to work with RhapPFS. I just hope that Sansa and REAL can work out some of the bugs and get the communications optimized between the player and the Rhapsody client.
Oh… and an increase in the song limit so I can buy a 16GB card will be good

As retailers, and especially electronics retailers go, best buy has one of the easiest retuen policys out there. I know some stores, who wont take a return unless they can prove 100% that its not the users fault.
Best Buy was pretty helpful when I needed them, I just thought it was odd that all three of my units from Best Buy had issues whereas the Sandisk ones did not.
Of course, most of the factory replacements from Sandisk are probably factory refurbs/repairs, and thus subject to 100% testing. Whereas the retail models are only tested per batches. 1 out of 100 or less.
That could be the culprit.
